UIC Barcelona becomes a signatory of the Magna Charta Universitatum

UIC Barcelona, along with 74 other institutions across the world, has become a signatory of the document laying down fundamental university principles.

The vice-rector of Research, Transfer and Innovation, Toni Mora, took part in the 30th Assembly of the Observatory of the Magna Charta Universitatum – a ceremony held at the University of Salamanca on 18 September. He endorsed the document laying down fundamental university principles in Salamanca on behalf of UIC Barcelona.

A total of 47 Spanish universities and 891 universities from across the world have now signed this document which was drawn up in 1988 in Bologna, Italy. This document lays down fundamental university principles such as academic freedom, institutional autonomy or the need to promote research, inter alia.

250 universities from 50 countries attended the Assembly of the Magna Charta Universitatum. Over the two-day assembly, the maintenance and updating of the document were discussed. The ceremony coincided with the 800th anniversary of the University of Salamanca.
