The project of UIC Barcelona School of Architecture Ceramic Chair students, led by Professor Vicenç Sarrablo together with pre-tenured lecturer Jordi Roviras and lecturer Cristina García Castelao, was recognised by the jury of the CervismaLab awards for the 17th consecutive year. 

UIC Barcelona School of Architecture students Aishath Zuha Abdul Bari, Juan Gaitán and Martina Musacchio won one first prize, one second prize and one honourable mention in Category B, respectively, corresponding to “Ceramic products formed by other methods.” 

Aishath Zuha Abdul Bari won the first prize with her project “Bloque Galce.” The jury valued the technical and aesthetic contribution of an architectural element that highlights Mediterranean-ness and use of light.

The second prize in the same category was awarded to Juan Gaitán for a piece called “Iktinos”. The jury awarded it for the contemporary aesthetic possibilities and versatility in the use of ceramic material in interior spaces as a lattice and ornamental element. Student Martina Musacchio won an honourable mention for “Santulan.”

The CevisamaLab awards ceremony will take place on the last day of the fair, which will be held for this latest edition between 27 February and 3 March at the Feria Valencia Institutional Exhibition Centre. The different projects will be on exhibit.

The Barcelona Ceramics Chair has been running for the 19 consecutive years thanks to the sponsorship of the Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers Association (ASCER). The aim of the Chair is to promote contact between Architecture students and the industry so that future architects can aim their proposals toward ceramics, creating new formats or developing new applications and features in existing formats.
