UIC Barcelona helps supply hospitals with healthcare supplies and protective clothing

The University has donated masks, protective glasses, gloves, gowns, beds and other materials to the University General Hospital of Catalonia, Áltima funeral service and Terrassa Health Consortium, to help curb the spread of COVID-19

Conscious of the tireless efforts by healthcare workers in hospitals, health centres and retirement homes across Spain to stop the spread of COVID-19, and in an attempt to help alleviate the strain, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Faculty of Dentistry and the University Dental Clinic have donated healthcare supplies and protective clothing, resources that would normally be used to help train future doctors, nurses and orthodontists, to the University General Hospital of Catalonia. UIC Barcelona has also donated these materials to Áltima funeral services and Terrassa Health Consortium, with whom the University often collaborates, as well as other organisations and institutions.

In concrete terms, UIC Barcelona has given over 14,500 masks, around 55,000 pairs of gloves and almost 3,400 gowns.  It has also contributed other valuable resources to help combat COVID-19 such as gasses, alcohol, protective glasses, infusion and transfusion equipment, endoscopy tubes and hats.  Finally, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences has also donated beds from the physiotherapy gyms and from the campus’ Advanced Integral Simulation Centre.
