UIC Barcelona holds a fully virtual edition of Forum 2021
More than 100 students registered this year and a total of 21 papers were submitted, including: 10 social impact projects and 11 scientific impact projects
The University annually organises a UIC Barcelona Forum, a conference that has always been held face-to-face. However, during the 2020 - 2021 academic year, and due to COVID-19, the opening, the deadlines and presentation of papers, as well as workshops and closing session have all had to be held online.
However, despite being virtual, UIC Barcelona 2021 Forum was a success, since, in addition to participation from university students from all over Catalonia and a secondary school student from Mexico, this year’s edition experienced the highest number of registrations from UIC Barcelona students ever.
More than 50% of the participants are currently taking a degree in Medicine, but there was also representation from degrees in Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Dentistry, Law, Architecture, Advertising, Audiovisual Communication, Education, Chemistry and, for the first time, there were also some Bioengineering and Psychology students.
The closing session was held on March 13, a virtual session with David Hernandez as a speaker. Hernández is the founder and CEO of Pangea Travel Store and during his presentation he described his business experiences as CEO of the company and his cooperation with Fundación Soñar Amerto.
The session ended with an awards ceremony and the winners for the scientific impact projects were two students from the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Maria Albero and Lucía Cladellas with their project entitled Sustainable Human Relationships: A utopia or a reality? supervised by lecturer Rocío Montuenga. Likewise, the prize for the best social impact project was awarded for a project to accompany patients during a pandemic created by five medical students: Thais Armengol, María Martínez, Emma Rodan, Isabela Reyes and Paula Rodríguez, supervised by senior Lecturer Josep Maria Guardiola.
