UIC Barcelona hosts a virtual presentation of the “Interreligious Guide for good climate culture practices”

The guide consists of a compendium of 48 initiatives presented by entities representing 13 different religions or spiritual communities existing in Catalonia

On February 25, the University hosted the online presentation of the Interreligious Guide to Good  Climate Culture Practices, which also includes the Interreligious Manifesto on Climate Culture.

This publication is linked to a research project entitled “Do religions present in Catalonia participate in climate culture?”, Project 2018 RELIG 00005 funded by the General Directorate for Religious Affairs of the Department of Justice in the Generalitat of Catalonia with support for research projects in the field of religious diversity (RELIG line of funding).

The research project was led by the principal researcher, Dr Sílvia Albareda, but was an interdisciplinary and inter-university project with participation from researchers from the University of Barcelona, the University of Navarra and the University of Alcala.

The “Interreligious Guide to Good Climate Culture Practices” is a compendium of 48 initiatives presented by entities representing 13 different religions or spiritual communities existing in Catalonia. The aim behind the publication of this guide is to contribute by making what each and every one of the religions in Catalonia does to care for the planet more visible.

In that sense, the guide aims to show that religious organisations are involved in a great deal of activities that contribute towards the development of a positive climate culture. Although different types of spirituality involve different beliefs, in practice there is a shared climate culture.

This introductory event, which was held virtually, was attended by more than 60 attendees. Members of the General Directorate for Religious Affairs in the Generalitat of Catalonia who participated in this event; Sílvia Albareda, the main researcher for the research project; Antoni Matabosch, president of the Stable Working Group of Religions of Catalonia (GTER); Salvador Samitier, head of the Catalan Office for Climate Change in the Generalitat of Catalonia; Joan Hernández, Researcher for the RELIG 2018 Project and Director of GTER; and Rosa Maria Lopez Ros, Head of Training, Research and Evaluation at the General Directorate for Religious Affairs in the Generalitat of Catalonia.
