The University’s Cooperation and Sustainable Development Office has set up a new web portal where it has uploaded information on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda SDGs at the University.

In order to publicise the SDGs in all internal and external activities generated by the institution, the new portal also aims to raise awareness of the importance that all members of the University Community must contribute to the implementation of these SDGs.

Overall, there are 17 SDGs that fall within the framework of Agenda 2030 adopted in 2015 by the UN, based on the challenge of safeguarding people, prosperity, the planet, peace and alliances.

UIC Barcelona, like all universities, through its wide array of academic and research activities, plays an important role in achieving the objectives and goals set for the year 2030 through its teaching, research and social leadership functions.

Along these lines, our institution is already working on 12 of the 17 SDGs proposed as part of Agenda 2030. Each objective has selected milestones and key indicators to monitor progress in terms of achieving the objectives. The starting point for UIC Barcelona in relation to each one is also indicated on the portal, with data provided corresponding to the last two academic years, 2018-2019 and 2019-2020.

Despite current good results, after an initial mapping exercise, at the University the belief is held that there is still a long way to go. That is why the launch of this portal, which covers part of the work carried out by UIC Barcelona, has been made official. The information it contains is in line with Agenda 2030, and its main objective is to ensure any contributions made by UIC Barcelona linked to the SDGs are made visible through specific milestones, indicators, examples and activities. 

This portal was set up with the intention of becoming a useful and open tool so that all the members of the UIC Barcelona university community can contribute towards a future in a more just, peaceful and sustainable society.
