UIC Barcelona once again celebrates Cultural Week

Like every year, the university dedicates a week to culture around the time of Saint George’s Day. Music, sports, games and literature filled our Sant Cugat and Barcelona campuses over these five days and on Saturday (tomorrow).

Cultural Week began with the semifinal of the Internal Debate league on the following theme “Should borders be closed to immigrants? Security vs Solidarity “. Two groups were classified on each campus. We were able to meet the winner at the final, which was held the next day.  Sergio Martínez and Ferran Grau were the two who classified for the final, both from the Faculty of Medicine and Healthcare on our Sant Cugat campus, their team was called “NK”.

Today the Rector’s Football 7 Tournament was held, which eleven teams participated in, six from our Barcelona campus, four from our Sant Cugat campus and also a team consisting of PAS/ PDI staff members.  It was a resounding success!

Music was present during the whole of the rest of Easter Week: on Wednesday the Sant Cugat choir gave a concert with a varied gospel repertoire: fifteen students sang eleven songs, such as “Lean on me”, and “Everybody clap your hands”. On Thursday on our Sant Cugat campus and today on our Barcelona campus the Maria Canals International Music competition placed a grand piano on site, and various students had an opportunity to play music including symphonies and contemporary music.

On Wednesday the Theatre group performed a play entitled “Autom@tics”, this group always puts on a play during Cultural Week each year. Around twenty students participated in the play’s première, this year more people than ever signed up.
