UIC Barcelona presents an exclusive documentary about ALS, any funds raised will be used for research into the disease
The feature film (40 minutes) covers Daniel Rossinés' challenge for solidarity carried out in June 2021, when he swam around the island of Menorca to raise funds for research into this disease
UIC Barcelona's Aula Magna will host the exclusive premiere of Brazadas, a documentary on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), on Thursday, 25 November, at 6.30 p.m. The film was produced by UIC Barcelona. The presentation of the documentary, to be given by Daniel Rossinés, will also be attended by Mercedes Milá, Juan Carlos Unzue and Laura Madrueno, well-known personalities who participated in the documentary and who did not hesitate to join the cause.
“BRAZADAS” FOR ALS
The 40-minute feature film includes footage of the second sports challenge for solidarity, known as the Upside Down Challenge, won by open water swimmer Daniel Rossines. In June 2021, a team from UIC Barcelona accompanied Daniel Rossinés during his challenge and shot the beginnings of the documentary currently being exclusively premiered.
The Upside Down Challenge was set up in 2020 with the aim of raising awareness about and raising funds for research into ALS. The first challenge that Rossinés successfully completed was to swim along the entire coast of Catalonia, from Portbou (Girona) to Les Cases d’Alcanar (Tarragona), in just 24 days. The swimmer travelled 400 kilometres and raised more than 85.000 euros, which went to ELA research through the Luzon Foundation.
The second challenge Rossinés took on, which he undertook between 18 and 25 June in Menorca, was to travel around the island by swimming, in stages of 15 to 20 km per day, and managed to swim more than 130 km parallel to the coast. He completed more than 65.000 “strokes” or brazadas, for ALS. Both challenges had the same objective: to raise awareness about ALS and raise funds for research into the disease.
The 2021 Upside Down Challenge Menorca received special support from UIC Barcelona, by recording of the challenge and later producing the documentary Brazadas, which has given a voice to ALS patients and their families.
UIC Barcelona wanted to get involved in this cause, which brings together solidarity, research and sustainability, three fundamental cornerstones that define it as an institution.
The event will take place in person in the Aula Magna on our Barcelona Campus (c/ Immaculada, 22, 08017 Barcelona), and you can also follow it live online. The price of the face-to-face tickets is 15 euros per person, while the price for following the event live online is 10 euros per person.
