The UIC Barcelona School of Architecture is adding a new master's degree programme during the 2021-2022 academic year.  It is our new Master's Degree in Urban Design for Healthy Cities, which will be directed by professors Pere Vall, Marta Benages and Álvaro Cuéllar. It is a cross-disciplinary and practical programme aimed at providing students with a conceptual and methodological basis for the design and planning of urban environments in accordance with the principles of well-being and sustainability. 

“While public health and urban planning share common goals, they have remained independent disciplines over the last century. Growing concern about the environmental and health emergency has led to a wide debate on the need to join both fields together, since binomial urban planning and healthcare have both gained momentum in recent years,” the programme directors pointed out.

The programme, which will be taught fully in English, is aimed at all professionals involved in the design, management and physical planning of cities (architects, city planners, landscape planners, civil engineers, etc.) who want to broaden their knowledge in sustainable urban design that focuses on the well-being of citizens. 

Our new Master's Degree in Urban Design for Healthy Cities covers both the professional and the research fields and brings together the environmental, social, cultural and economic dimensions, with more than 20 talks given by experts from these fields and a workshop on urban design. In this first edition, a total of 25 places are offered and the student admission process is already open.
