UIC Barcelona staff attended the presentation of the Charter for Universities and Culture created by the Vives Network

This project responds to an initiative by the governing and working bodies of the  Vives Network to provide universities with a model for the management of culture

On 20 May, part of the Student Services team participated in a virtual session for the Jornada Foro Vives sobre la dimensión cultural de la universidad organised by Jaume I University.

The session was held with the aim of reflecting on the proposed Charter for Universities and Culture that over the past few months has been worked on collaboratively by vice-rectorates and culture and university extension services in the universities that are members of the Vives Network.

This project responds to an initiative by the governing and working bodies of the Vives Network to provide universities with a model to manage culture. In addition, this model is divided into six areas of action: Education and cultural learning, research and dissemination of knowledge, cultural creation and programming, conservation and dissemination of material and intangible heritage, the local cultural ecosystem, and the digital dimension of culture.

The Charter is therefore a working document that facilitates coordination between all actors involved in culture, while also establishing recommendations to ensure that culture can circulate throughout all the different areas of the university, including teaching and research.

During the session, all attendees had the opportunity to analyse the implementation of the strategies and measures covered by the Charter, with the ultimate aim of making the cultural dimension of universities more visible and strengthening it, while also facilitating cooperation between the institutions that are members of the Vives Network.

What the Charter for Universities and Culture intends to achieve is the culmination a common model that marks the limitations of how far universities can reach, each from their own starting point.
