UIC Barcelona takes part in the European Union's Joint Action on Tobacco Control

This is the first time the University has taken part in a joint action set up by the European Union, which includes over 35 countries.

With a view to assessing the implementation of the Tobacco Products Directive, this project was launched by the European Union to control tobacco use. The initiative is due to be carried out over the next three years and brings together a number of collaborating partners, including UIC Barcelona, thanks to the efforts of the University’s Health Determinants and Health Policies Assessment Research Group.

In the words of Dr José M. Martínez-Sánchez, UIC Barcelona’s representative in the project, “having the chance to work as a collaborating partner in an action of this magnitude offers a fantastic opportunity to obtain the scientific evidence necessary to continue to regulate tobacco products in all EU Member States. By doing so, we will help improve the public health policies aimed at controlling and reducing tobacco use and passive exposure in all European Union countries”.
