UIC Barcelona takes part in the Upside Down Challenge

The University is taking part in Daniel Rossinés’s new adventure. From today he will swim around the island of Menorca to raise awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The closing event for the 2020-2021 sports yearwas attended by former player and professional football coach Juan Carlos Unzué, who has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and swimmer Daniel Rossinés, who through his solidarity challenges aims to raise awareness and funds for research on this disease. UIC Barcelona has decided to go a step further and will actively take part in the new adventure being undertaken by this swimmer from Barcelona.

The University will take part in filming the new Upside Down Challenge that will star Daniel Rossinés, who will swim around the island of Menorca starting from today until 26 June, travelling a total of 140 kilometres in eight days to raise awareness and funds for ALS research. During the challenge, a team from UIC Barcelona will follow up on Rossinés day-to-day and also the different celebrities who will participate, with the aim of publicising the initiative and raising awareness of the importance of research in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.

This will be the second time that Rossinés has undertaken a challenge of these characteristics, since he managed to swim the 400 kilometers that separate Portbou (Girona) from Las Casas de Alcanar (Tarragona) in only 24 days. By doing this he raised more than 85.000 euros for research into ALS by the Luzon Foundation.

This challenge can be followed on a daily basis through the Instagram profile for the Upside Down Challenge (@upside.down_challenge) and UIC Barcelona’s social media channels.
