UIC Barcelona will host the 11th edition of the annual conference of the International Forum on Urbanism

The event is organised in cooperation with UN-Habitat and the Urban Resilience Research Network (URNet)

UIC Barcelona School of Architecture will host the 11th edition of the annual conference of the International Forum on Urbanism (IFoU), entitled “Reframing Urban Resilience Implementation: Aligning Sustainability and Resilience”. The first two days the event will be held on UIC Barcelona’s campus in Barcelona and the last day will take place at the UN-Habitat offices located in the modernist precinct of Sant Pau hospital.

Over 150 researchers and academics from around the world will gather to discuss four major themes which will attempt to provide a more inclusive approach to urban resilience. The problems that will be addressed are post-disaster and post-conflict policies, climate change governance and planning, urban design and management aiming to build more sustainable infrastructures and services, and finally, community initiatives and participative processes.

Each subject area will include internationally renowned speakers who work on pioneering models to develop and implement urban resilience in their countries.The five keynote speakers are Timon McPhearson, director of the Urban Systems Lab at Tishman Environment and Design Center in New York, Adriana Allen, professor in the Bartlett Development Planning Unit in London, Isabelle Anguelovski, coordinator of the research group Healthy Cities and Environmental Justice at Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute, Chris Zevenbergen, professor in the Water Engineering Department at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands, and Gonzalo Lizarralde, holder of the Université de Montréal Fayolle-Magil Construction Research Chair in Architecture. 

The congress is organized by supporting the New Urban Agenda and the 11th Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations.
