UIC Barcelona will incorporate a PhD student through the REDI PhD programme, financed by the Marie Curie COFUND European funding programme. The project is led by Australian university RMIT, with UIC Barcelona as a partner and host institution, under the coordination of lecturer Carmen Mendoza-Arroyo. 

The student will carry out their doctoral thesis within the "Post-emergency community resilience" line of research and as part of the consolidated Research Group Community Based Urbanism at UIC Barcelona School of Architecture. UNHabitat will also take part in the project as an industrial partner. “This funding will attract the best candidates in the world to carry out their research at our University, giving us the chance to conduct increasingly competitive research”, points out the lecturer. 

Through REDI, RMIT will support a total of 41 new PhD positions linked to business, the arts and science across Europe over the next five years. As such, the Australian university has selected a total of 24 academic partners, including UIC Barcelona, from 11 European countries. RMIT also plans to organise an annual meeting in Barcelona so that researchers who are part of the project can participate in training and workshops to develop cross-disciplinary skills. The programme’s main objective is to significantly boost research links between Europe and Australia.
