UIC Celebrates St. George's Day
On Tuesday, 23 April 2013, St. George's Day will be celebrated with roses, literature readings, the Recycling Culture book sale, typical food and a photography contest. The events are organized as part of UIC's Cultural Week, which will be celebrated all week on both UIC campuses.
The week of 22-28 April 2013, the UIC will celebrate its annual Cultural Week, seven days during which the university community participates in activities of theatre, cinema, art, solidarity and sport. The objective is to move culture beyond the classrooms and encourage the entire community to get involved. Throughout the week, theatre groups on both campuses will hold their premieres, the cooking club will offer a food tasting and the second edition of the Television Series Contest will be held. At the same time, the group Across UIC has organized the lecture "Communication and Trust: the Art of Building Relationships" by Ferran Ramon-Cortés on Wednesday, 24 April. The online programme is available on the Cultural Week webpage.
St. George's Day, the day of the patron saint of Catalonia, is the main day for all the activities held during the week. During the day, professors, students and administrative staff will be able to participate in the St. George's Day photography contest and submit their three best photographs capturing the day. They can also listen to literature readings, buy books from the initiative Recycling Culture and buy a rose in the stand of solidarity roses, which will donate the profits to the work camps organized by the UIC this summer. Finally, everyone will be able to try a special St. George's meal on Passeig de la Fontana on the Barcelona campus.
