UIC Celebrates World Environment Day

On Wednesday, 5 June 2013, the UIC celebrated World Environment Day with the inauguration of the organic garden and the vertical garden in the Faculty of Education buildings.

During the celebration, participants were able to visit the vertical garden and the organic garden to learn about how they work and add new plants. The visit ended with the tasting of an organic lunch.

The event was organized for World Environment Day by the UIC + Sostenible programme. The objective was to support the initiative by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), whose motto this year is "Think, Eat, Save".

The event also aimed to raise awareness about how important it is to reduce our ecological footprint by controlling the amount of food that is wasted. Issues such as responsible consumption, using leftovers and preventing food waste were present throughout the event.

The event was also part of the activities organized by the Barcelona City Council's Agenda 21.
