UIC Creates Family Policy Programme with Joaquim Molins Figueras Foundation
A seminar on Family, Poverty and Home will be one of the first activities organized by the programme through the UIC Institute of Advanced Family Studies.
The Joaquim Molins Figueras Foundation signed a collaboration agreement with the UIC Institute of Advanced Family Studies (IESF) to establish the Joaquim Molins Figueras Family Policy Programme.
Among its objectives, the Joaquim Molins Figueras Foundation aims to gain more in-depth knowledge about the current state of the family and pass on proposals to government agencies as well as different social agents. In this regard, the programme, which will be directed by Dr. Montserrat Gas Aixendri, the Head of the IESF, will work to map the current state of the family, raise awareness about family policies and propose possible action plans to public institutions and social agents. Teaching and dissemination of knowledge will be the main objectives of the programme.
The Institute of Advanced Family Studies (IESF) was founded at the UIC in 2004 as the first university-level institution in Spain to focus exclusively on family policy. Research, teaching and dissemination of knowledge are among the IESF's endeavours. Its Observatory on Family Policies was created in 2010 with an aim of attending forums that contribute positively to decision-making on family policy and playing an active role in public debate.
The intention of the programme is to organize courses and seminars on family policy and publish a collection of Family Policy Booklets to distribute to politicians, specialists and experts. One of the first outreach activities to be organized will be an annual seminar of professionals that provides an environment for constructive debate where new ideas and proposals can be put forward to improve the situation of families. The first seminar is due to take place in October and will focus on Family, Poverty and Home.
The creation of the programme continues and consolidates the collaboration between the two institutions, which began in 2004. UIC Rector Dr. Pere Alavedra and Joaquin Molins Gil, a member of the Joaquim Molins Figueras Foundation, were present at the signing of the agreement.
