UIC Debates New Opportunities in Construction Industry

On Thursday, 8 March 2012, about a hundred people attended a conference on innovation and patents organized by the UIC CEIM Chair of Industrial Building Using Environmental Parameters.

The
UIC CEIM Chair of Industrial Building Using Environmental Parameters was
created in 2011 and incorporated into the ESARQ School of Architecture under
the direction of architect Dr.
Felipe Pich-Aguilera.

 The
aim of the UIC, in response to market needs, was to create a Chair that would allow
for scientific-technological cooperation in three specific areas of activity to
a greater extent than is possible in R&D: training, knowledge generation
and the transfer of technology and knowledge. In order to achieve this,
numerous training, research and dissemination activities have been carried out
over the course of the 2011-2012 academic year.

 One
of the activities carried out within the framework of the CEIM was this
conference on new opportunities in the construction industry that focused
primarily on innovation and patents.

 The
Chair is supported by four collaborating companies that represent the various
players in the construction industry: Bosch Pascual (a construction company),
Intemper (a roof and façade company),
Prefabricats Pujol (a prefab
construction company) and Rockwool (an insulation company). Representatives
from these companies were present at the conference.

 During
the conference, which was presented by ESARQ director
Vicente
Sarrablo
, two roundtable sessions were held. The first of these dealt with
procedures and patents and the second with specific experiences. Taking part in
the sessions were
Vicente Sarrablo, with his innovative
ceramic fabric, known as Flexbrick, as well as representatives from Rockwool,
the pharmaceutical industry, the patent office, Materfad, KIMglobal,
Construmat, Intemper, Prefabricats Pujol, Compact Habit, RLA, IMAT and CYPE.

 One
of the objectives of the CEIM is to establish ties for collaboration and joint
development between the UIC and different construction companies and industry
players to obtain significant results in terms of sustainability and respect
for the environment.
