UIC Hosts Second Training Course in Paediatric Dermatology

From Friday to Sunday, 15-17 February 2013, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences hosted the second edition of the International Training Course in Paediatric Dermatology organized by the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV).

The course, which focuses on paediatric dermatology in clinical practice, was aimed at third- and fourth-year dermatology interns from all over Europe. It featured prominent speakers from the field of paediatric dermatology and was attended by 24 interns from more than 10 European countries, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovakia, Greece, Hungary and Turkey.

Those attending had the opportunity to listen to some of the world's leading paediatric dermatologists, including Dr. Carlo Gelmetti from the Università degli Studi di Milano in Italy and Belgium-based Dr. Dirk Van Gysel, a world expert on the subject who spoke about exanthems and mastocytosis.

Among the other world-renowned professors were Zsusa Szalai from Budapest, Hungary, and Talia Kakourou, a paediatrician, dermatologist, member of the European Society for Paediatric Dermatology (ESPD) and an expert on paediatric dermatology from Athens, Greece.

Ramon Grimalt, a UIC professor and the president of the EADV, said, “The talks given by the professors and the cases presented by the interns were of the highest quality and reflected a wide range of styles and subject matters”.

The success of this year’s edition means that it will be held at the UIC again in 2014. This was down to the UIC’s professionalism and because, as Grimalt said, “We firmly believe that such international courses give our university a more international outlook”.
