UIC Participates in American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages Convention

Fernando Bravo attended the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Annual Convention, which took place in Philadelphia from Friday to Saturday, 16-18 November 2012. It is the largest international fair for language learning and teaching.

This is the third consecutive year that Professor Bravo, from the UIC Faculty of Humanities and a teacher of Spanish for foreigners, has attended the international convention in order to establish ties with other educational institutions around the world and to see how they work.

The ACTFL Annual Convention is a meeting place for professionals working in language teaching and international training, in particular foreign language educators. During the convention, educational institutions from around the world present what they have to offer to the many visitors, mostly language teachers from different American educational institutions. It accomplishes its mission to promote vision, leadership and support to high-quality language teaching and language learning.

Although the fair is organized primarily for American educators, who make up 67% of its 7,200 visitors, it is in the UIC's interest to attend, as it intends to develop its own programme of teaching Spanish as a foreign language. In fact, Spanish is the most popular language at the convention.
