UIC Professor Alberto Heras Included in 2014 Tax Controversy Leaders Guide

Alberto Heras, a professor of Financial and Tax Law at the Faculty of Law of the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), has been included in the Tax Controversy Leaders guide for 2014. The guide is published on a yearly basis by International Tax Review and identifies the best experts in tax proceedings from more than 50 different jurisdictions.

Heras has also been included in the Best Lawyers International 2014 survey, which is published in around 70 different countries. The 21st edition of this ranking, in which Heras appears, includes 52,488 lawyers drawn from 137 different areas of practice and is based on more than 5.5 million detailed assessments provided by the lawyers’ peers.

Since 2001, Heras has been an assistant professor of Financial and Tax Law at the UIC’s Faculty of Law and, since 2013, he has been a partner at the Barcelona office of the law firm Ramón y Cajal Abogados, where he is in charge of matters related to tax law. He boasts substantial experience in providing corporate tax advice, including corporate restructuring and taxation procedures for both multinational groups and family-run businesses.

Heras has also provided tax advice in due diligence proceedings, tax optimization of transactions and tax-related financing for numerous corporate takeovers, for both the buyers and sellers. Additionally, he has led a number of projects related to transfer pricing, including preparing and revising mandatory documents and conducting valuations of the activities of multinational groups (e.g. participation loans, sales of shares and companies, and company closures and transfers).
