Parlen les
dones aims to transport viewers back
to rural Sant Cugat as it was during the first thirty years of the 20th
century, through the stories of 17 women. They talk about numerous aspects of
their day-to-day lives, such as leisure activities, religion, food and courtship.
Although the majority of the women who participated in the documentary were
born in Sant Cugat, some of the stories are from those who were born elsewhere
and came to the area when they were young.
The series, which will consist
of 13 episodes and will be broadcast at cugat.cat, is based on Parlen les dones. Sant Cugat del Vallès, 1912-1936 (In the Words of the Women: Sant Cugat del Vallès 1912-1936), a book by
journalists Daniel Romaní and Tate Cabré. The documentary project was begun
three years ago and includes numerous images from the period (some from
archives and some contributed by the women interviewed), along with original
music composed by Guillem Pareja.
During the presentation of the
series on Saturday, 31 March 2012, Professor of Journalism and Audiovisual
Communication Luis Ramón Grifé declared himself to be very satisfied with the
end result; an opinion which has been reflected in the public’s response to the
series.
Much of the interest in this
film project stems from the fact that it tackles a period which was of exceptional
social, political and economic importance for Catalonia, and examines the
unique perspective of a group who had an extremely important part to play: the women.
