UIC Supports AQU Catalunya's Position on Ex-ante Assessment of Degree Programmes

The UIC has announced its support for the press release ?Yes to ex-ante assessment, no to the current process? issued by the Board of Management of AQU Catalunya (the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency). In doing so, the UIC publicly declares its position on the ex-ante assessment process that all university degree programmes must currently undergo before they can be introduced or before they can be modified to better meet society's demands.

The members of the Board of Management of AQU Catalunya (the Catalan
University Quality Assurance Agency) believe that the current ex-ante assessment
process should be simplified and feel it is necessary to modify the process to
make universities and AQU Catalunya responsible for the monitoring, external
assessment and accreditation of degree programmes, thereby completing the cycle
of continuous improvement in university education.

The UIC fully recognizes the importance of an assessment process. It
views the process as an essential preliminary step to the establishment of a
degree programme to ensure the existence of a coherent initial planning process
for higher education.
