The UIC Supports Leadership Training for Young People

Success of the fifth edition of the UIC Conference on Creating Leaders for secondary school students throughout Catalonia.

More than a hundred students from 15 secondary schools in Catalonia participated on Wednesday, 15 January 2012, in the Conference on Creating Leaders, the title of which this year was "Discover and Build on Your Leadership". The UIC Promotion Unit has been organizing this conference for the last five years with the aim of providing leadership training to secondary school students.

Dàmaris Gonzalo Vila, the Head of the UIC Promotion Unit, was the first speaker at the conference with the paper: "Discover the Leader Inside You".

The session included videos on leadership and teamwork. After watching the videos, the students discussed the characteristics required to be a good leader. The participants were then divided into small groups to work on the group exercise "The Falling Egg", in which they tested their team-management skills.

Also participating in the conference was Víctor Küppers, a UIC professor and the author of the book El efecto actitud (The Attitude Effect), who spoke about "The Importance of Personal Attitudes in Leadership".

Küppers explained, "To be a good leader, you have to fight and have a good attitude towards life". He also encouraged the students to be good leaders in all areas of their lives and not just as professionals, "because these kinds of leaders are the ones that go further in life".

With this conference, the UIC supports leadership training for young people, not only so they can be successful at university, but also so they acquire the habit of facing the job market with a positive attitude.
