The UIC Takes over Coordination of Catalonia University Championships from Universitat de Vic
As part of the closing ceremony of the 29th edition of the Catalonia University Championships in Vic on Tuesday, 7 October 2014, the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) took over coordination of the Championships, which were hosted last academic year by the Universitat de Vic-Universitat Central de Catalunya.
The ceremony was presided over by Jordi Montaña, the Rector of the Universitat de Vic, accompanied by Ivan Tibau, the Catalan government's Secretary General for Sport. Jaume Armengou, the Vice Rector for Academic Organization and the Teaching Staff, attended in representation of the UIC.
During the ceremony, Montaña symbolically handed over the baton to the UIC to coordinate the Championships in the 2014-2015 academic year.
In the previous edition, 2,353 students from twelve Catalan universities participated in the Catalonia University Championships in team and individual sports (889 in women's events, 1,368 in men's events and 96 in mixed events). A total of 134 teams participated in the following sports: basketball, team handball, indoor football, 11-a-side football, 7-a-side football, roller hockey, water polo, volleyball, 3x3 basketball, beach handball and beach football.
The competitions were held at thirteen cities in Catalonia: Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, Tarragona, Cerdanyola, Esplugues de Llobregat, Castelldefels, La Molina, Cambrils, El Vendrell, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Banyoles and Vic.
