The UIC Welcomes Nearly 200 Students Participating in Kangaroo Maths Contest

On Thursday morning, 15 March 2012, about 200 boys and girls aged 14 to 18 participated in the Kangaroo Maths Contest in the UIC's main lecture hall. The contest was organized by the Catalan Mathematics Society of the Institute of Catalan Studies.

The
Kangaroo Maths Contest, also known as the Maths Party, is a European
competition for secondary-school students aged 14 and over whose aim is to
popularize and promote mathematics as part of a large-scale event. It also aims
to stimulate and motivate the study of mathematics by posing maths problems.

The
UIC is one of the institutions that
supports this initiative and this is the eighth year it has made the main
lecture hall available to some of the 20,000 participants in the contest, which
is held in Catalonia,
the Balearic Islands and the Autonomous
Community of Valencia.
