UIC Welcomes New Students
On Monday, 16 September 2013, the UIC welcomed the students starting in the 2013-2014 academic year. Under the slogan «A UIC World. This Academic Year Will Explore a World Without Borders», the students were introduced to university life and provided with information on the services offered by the university.
Dr. Belén Zárate, the Vice Rector for the University Community, opened the session with a speech on the four values on which the UIC's education is based: the person as the centre, the search for the truth, social commitment and professional prestige.
The next speaker to participate in the event was Dr. Xavier Escribano, a teacher in the Faculty of Humanities, who spoke abut the university spirit, and Alejandro Luque, a teacher in the Faculty of Communication Sciences, who focused on one’s own “personal brand”. The services offered by the university, such as the Chaplaincy, were then explained, and a video was shown with the key information that students should know before starting the academic year.
During the break, the new students had the opportunity to have their photos taken alongside their degree classmates in the photo call.
The event was divided into two sessions. The morning session was attended primarily by students enrolled on degree courses taught on the Barcelona campus, and the afternoon session by students who will be taught on the Sant Cugat campus. Both sessions took place in the main lecture hall at the UIC.
