United Nation Negotiation Processes

On Wednesday, 18 April 2012, Dr. Paloma Durán, a professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, gave a talk on the negotiation processes used at the United Nations, as part of the continuing-education programme of the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences.

The title of the lecture delivered by Dr. Paloma Durán in
the UIC Graduate Hall on Wednesday, 18 April 2012, was “Mediation and
Negotiation at the United Nations”. In her talk, the
professor defended the importance of the existence of this international forum,
which is establishing the priority areas for global social policy.

As
an example, Durán talked about her participation in
negotiations within the Security Council concerning the recruitment of children
for armed conflicts and the consequences of this case. The speaker concluded by
saying, “Some of the political measures that arose from the case of child
recruitment have made it possible to raise awareness about this phenomenon
around the world”.
