Vygon Joins Department of Management by Missions and Corporate Governance

The addition of Vygon, a company specializing in the supply of healthcare material, now means there are eight companies committed to conducting research with the Department and promoting models for business management that are focused on the idea of «missions» and placing trust in people.

Vygon has joined the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya’s (UIC) Department of Management by Missions and Corporate Governance. The relationship became official on Wednesday, 5 November 2014, when the agreement was signed by both parties at the University. Vygon, a family-run group that has a global reach, offers a personalized service to healthcare professionals through the provision of a wide variety of high-quality, sterilized single-use medical and surgical products, which are designed to improve patients’ wellbeing and care. Its addition to the Department means there are now eight companies, from a variety of different sectors, that have committed themselves to researching this new, mission-based management model.

Management by missions offers a new perspective on management that enhances the traditional, objective-based focus. By integrating missions into the management system, it repositions the objectives to serve the mission and promotes greater commitment from employees. The UIC’s Department of Management by Missions and Corporate Governance, which conducts research into this new management model, is directed by Dr. Carlos Rey, an expert in strategic and change management, and Miquel Bastons, a lecturer in Economics and an expert in the field of decision-making.

In addition to Vygon, the Department is supported by seven other companies, hailing from a variety of different sectors: the main sponsor Jimenez Maña, from the automotive industry; Semillas Fitó, from the agriculture industry; Kern Pharma, from the pharmaceutical industry; Aitex, from the textile industry; JJC Contratistas Generales, from the construction industry; HUF Portuguesa, also from the automotive industry; and Industrial Química del Nalón, from the chemicals industry.

The UIC’s aim was to respond to the needs of the market by creating a department that would enable more extensive scientific and technological cooperation than is offered by an R&D project, and with the clear objective of generating and transferring knowledge. As a result, the Department engages in training activities as well as research and publication.

The agreement was signed by the UIC Rector, Dr. Pere Alavedra, and the General Manager of Vygon España, Florent Amion.

Vygon, the Department’s new member, is a world leader in the design of products that help healthcare professionals improve the levels of care given to their patients. The company’s products and solutions are sold all over the world through a network of 25 subsidiaries and 79 exclusive distributors, who offer an extensive range of products for all ages – from newborns to adults – in the following specialist areas: intensive care, oncology, haematology, emergency care, anaesthesia, intravenous therapy, surgery, pain treatment and home care.
