The WeCare Chair organises a seminar entitled “Existential issues and meaning in life in palliative care”, led by Dr Martin Fegg

On 29 June, the Auditorium on the Sant Cugat Campus hosted the seminar “Existential issues and meaning in life in palliative care”, led by Dr Martin Fegg, clinical psychologist and lecturer in the Department of Palliative Medicine at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. The conference discussed ways of addressing existential aspects in patients with advanced disease.

An expert researcher in the field of meaning in life, Dr Fegg is the creator of SMiLE, an ideographic instrument that uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to measure this personal dimension. During his presentation, he stressed the benefits of Existential Behaviour Therapy in improving the quality of life for people who require palliative care and their family members.

As a member of the WeCare Chair, Dr Martin Fegg also took part in a number of scientific meetings. His visit was the first step towards developing an intervention protocol that addresses the existential suffering of patients with palliative care needs and their family members in Spain.
