WeCare – At the End of Life Chair Presents Papers at Fourteenth Congress of European Association for Palliative Care

Dr. Albert Balaguer, Dr. Josep Porta, Dr. Cristina Monforte, Mariona Guerrero and Andrea Rodriguez, who together form part of the research team at the WeCare - At the End of Life Chair at the UIC Barcelona, took part in the 14th World Congress of the European Association for Palliative Care. The event was held in the city of Copenhagen (Denmark) from Friday, 8 to Sunday, 10 May 2015.

Among the papers presented at the conference were What Do We Understand by the “Desire for Early Death" and The Relationship Between Perceived Dignity and Autonomy at the End of Life. Their authors tackled a wide range of concerns: from anthropological considerations such as the meaning of life for patients in whom the disease is at an advanced stage, to more specific, technical considerations such as antalgic treatment of haematology patients using Tapentadol. The UIC researchers also had the opportunity to meet other end-of-life experts, such as Dr. Harvey Chochinov from the University of Manitoba in California, Dr. Barry Rosenfeld from Fordham University in New York and Dr. Raymond Voltz and sociology lecturer Gerrit Frerich, both of whom work at the European Palliative Care Academy in Cologne.

The WeCare – At the End of Life Chair also had a stand at the congress, where several members took the opportunity to promote their next workshop (which will take place in Barcelona in November) and the scientific work they are carrying out.
