Xavier Baró studies the evolution of Catalan historiographic discourse by exploring the correlation between Catalan identity and the Hispanic Monarchy

The lecturer from the Faculty of Humanities has presented his analysis in a chapter of the book The Catalan Nation and Identity Throughout History from the Swiss publishers Peter Lang.

The lecturer from the Faculty of Humanities Xavier Baró has analysed one of the two most recurrent themes in Catalan historiographic discourse during the Modern age: the study of Catalan identity and its correlation with the Hispanic Monarchy. He has contributed the chapter titled "The Writing of History and of Catalan Identity: From Jeroni Subidas (1568-1635) to Antoni de Capmany (1742-1813)” in the book The Catalan Nation and IdentityThroughout History from the Swiss publishers Peter Lang.

In his chapter, Baró analyses the evolution of Catalan historiographic discourse, from the first expressions during the Modern age to the first contemporary scenarios. Following this line of study, the book presents an approach to the elements that built Catalan national identity, with the added complexity of the appearance of composite monarchies in the 16th century.
