Introduction

This Rotation is one of the so-called "rotatory tutored clinical practices" or Rotary of the sixth year. The student has to dedicate some time to social tasks related to health, making a contribution that adds value to the social environament. It can be done in the fields of accompaniment, promotion, prevention, attention or rehabilitation of health.

Pre-course requirements

The specific application document must be completed and delivered at rotatorisocialmedicina@uic.es at least one month before starting the rotation in the case of entities with an agreement and a month and a half in case of having to make a new agreementThe apllications must be delivered between September 15th and end of May.

The application must be confirmed by the center, identifying the tasks to be carried out and the proposed dates of internship.

It is essential to have received confirmation and acceptance by the responsible of the subject, before starting the activity.

The center where the internship is carried out must have a specific agreement with the University to perform the social rotation.

 

Objectives

The student is expected to develop solidarity-like attitudes, values and behaviors, and to be sensitive to the needs of fragile or vulnerable people related to psychological, family, occupational, social health ... It is necessary to be aware of the contribution which as a medical student can do to society.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

  • 01 - Recognise the essential elements of the medical profession, including ethical principles, legal responsibilities and patient-centered professional skills.
  • 02 - Understand the importance of central principles, in particular of professional confidentiality for the benefit of patients, society and the profession.
  • 03 - Know how to apply the principle of social justice to professional practice and understand the ethical implications of health in a changing global context.
  • CTP-2 - To develop a perception and understanding of their own emotions and those of others, as well as the intelligence adjust answers.
  • CTP-3 - To develop critical thinking and reasoning as well as self-assessment skills.
  • CTS-2 - To demonstrate sensitivity to environmental issues and act accordingly.
  • CTS-3 - To promote and ensure respect for human rights and the principles of universal accessibility, equality, non-discrimination as well as the values of democracy and a culture of peace.

Learning outcomes of the subject

  • Recognize the role of health professionals in building a more fair and supportive world.
  • Argue the social and community transcendence of every person and in particular as a medical Student.
  • Write a report of the significant learning that has been achieved reflecting the experience after having performed the social rotation.

Syllabus

The Social Rotatory consists in performing a minimum of 50 hours (for example: two weeks in the morning) aimed at vulnerable or fragile people, performing social tasks related to the health environment (accompaniment, care, promotion of health, social reintegration ...), in recognized centers or entities. He will do so under the supervision and follow-up of a tutor or responsible person who will confirm the execution of the hours and activities once they have finished.

The student can choose between the centers and activities offered by the University, under the coverage and own insurance or can propose a new activity and center of their choice provided that it permits the fulfillment of the objectives and learning outcomes identified in this guide.



Teaching and learning activities

The teaching methodology will be:

  • Assistance to the chosen center, performing the social tasks identified in the application form and approved by the director of the subject.
  • Self-learning activities.
  • Observation, reflection and evidence collection portfolio.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person



The basis for the rotation evaluation will be the survey of the student’s reflexive report at the end of the rotation where he will record his reflections and the evidences of learning.

The leader of the subject will base the assessment on the following aspects and values:

  • 3p : Content of the final report: Make a good reflexion about the activity carried out.
  • 2p : Compliance with the application and scheduling procedure and the established hours, objectively assessed and signed by a tutor.
  • 1p : Orientation to the promotion / prevention / care or rehabilitation of health or activity of an educational nature that will favor an improvement in the health care of the population.
  • 1p : Activities carried out. Active participation in the project / Level of involvement in the activities.
  • 0.5p : It has suposed a change in schedules, habits, effort to do it.
  • 1p : Direct action on vulnerable or disadvantaged people.
  • 1.5p : Achievement of the formative results.

Those cases in which the activity has exceeded the requirements of the rotation, the possibility of indicating "Cum laude" will be valued or increase the note obtained in the evaluation.
