Pre-course requirements
Objectives
- To understand the concepts of globalization and global health, and the role of nursing profession in that context.
- To critically analyse global health problems from a nursing perspective
- To debate the future challenges in the field of nursing locally, nationally and internationally.
- To learn basic epidemiology and health policy in the field of global health
- To recognize the social role of nurses in health policy and mass media.
- To critically analyse settings and paths in which nurses can work abroad
- To understand the challenges and opportunities of practising the nurse profession beyond borders
- To exchange experiences from nurses who have studied nursing and / or participated in or developed projects outside Spain.

Learning outcomes of the subject
- Recognize the international dimension of nursing and health care.
- Understanding the international dimension of care. Transmissible diseases in developing countries: prevention and control.
- Learn how to communicate orally information about nursing issues through lectures / oral presentations.
- Learn how do a written communication about nursing issues.
- Read and analyse literature about nursing issues understanding the main ideas.
- Identify the socio-political and economic context that influence professional practice and the functioning of health organizations
Syllabus
- Patricia Benner model "from novice to expert": conceptual framework for learning and professional nursing development.
- Health policies and systems.
- Epidemiology and public health as basis of national and international health problems knowledge.
- Contemporary public health problems: in countries with high, medium and low income.
- Global solutions for global problems.
- Scientific knowledge and sources of information / research
- The international work of nurses (networking, support, research, management, etc.).
Teaching and learning activities

En la asignatura N. Abroad se utilizarán metodologías de classe presencial-on-line i trabajos individuales y colaborativos.

Methods used include:
- Lectures
- Individual work: readings and exercises
- Group work in class
- Brainstorming seminars
- Discussion in class
- Journal club
- Role play/ Vodcast
Some personal work at home is required, as students need to read given material before class. Teamwork and discussion of the lectures and readings will occupy between 30 to 50% of the total time of the class. Students must participate in class and in seminars, discussing and debating the proposed topics.
Specific content of the subject and the methodologies for each day will be abailable in moodle.
There will be self-directed study days, in which students are encouraged to work either individually or in groups in certain tasks. The lecturer will be available online during the scheduled time to answer any questions from students.
Evaluation systems and criteria
In person
Evaluation:
- The course evaluation will be made with a minimum score of 50 over 100 in each of the elements of the evaluation processes:
- Attendance and participation in class (40%).
- Solving a Global Health Problem (20%)
- Journal club (20%)
- Vodcast (20%)
2a CONVOCATORIA
Se podrá recuperar aquella actividad suspendida EXCEPTO la asistencia y participación en aula.. No se podrá utilizar la 2a convocatoria para subir nota de las actividades ya aprobadas. Las actividades aprobadas, se mantienen en la 2a convocatoria para hacer media, con el % que corresponda a esta convocatoria.
El resto de actividades se podrán recuperar de la siguiente forma:
- Examen individual: se hará un examen con el mismo formato que el de 1a convocatoria en las fechas inidicadas en calendario académico para 2a convocatoria
- Póster, Planificación, Journal Club y Vodcast: Se podrá recuperar la parte suspendida realizando una actividad similar de forma individual que será indicada por el docente, y que, como nota máxima, se podrá obtener un 5/10 en caso de estar correctamente realizada.
El % de cada actividad en esta 2ª convocatoria será el siguiente:
- Assistència i participació a les sessions i resolució de problemes a l'aula (15%)
- Solve a Global Health problem (35%)
- Vodcast (25%)
- Journal Club (25%)
3a y 4rta convocatoria igual que 1a y 2a
5a y 6a, en caso de concederse, seguirán también misma normativa que 1a y 2a.
Honor Matrix Assignment Procedure (MH)
- The criterion for assigning Honorary Enrolments (MH) is based on the Excellent (9.0).
- The assignment is solely for the teacher and does not have to give it, even if the student has obtained a mark above 9.0.
- In case the teacher decides to award MH, he will not take into account the numerical mark and the highest, but will evaluate other factors. The HM might not match the highest numeric score.
Procedure for Non-presented Assignment (NP)
- To register an NP in the student's file, it must not have been submitted to any of the evaluation tests throughout the assignment.
- If a student has submitted to one of the evaluation tests, the corresponding percentages in the teaching guide will be applied, with a 0 in those not presented.
Procedure for plagiarism or academic fraud
Any assignment or activity (including exams) in which plagiarism, falsification or academic fraud is detected, will result in a failure of the activity and an academic sanction that will entail from the loss of enrolment rights in this subject, to the opening of a file process.
