Smoke-free space

Espai sense fum

At UIC Barcelona, we are firmly committed to sustainability and health promotion. Let’s all do our part to make our university a healthy environment.
We have a smoke-free policy, and we adhere to Law 42/2010, which states that smoking is not permitted in “schools and training centres”, except in open-air spaces outside universities or centres devoted exclusively to adult education, provided these spaces are not direct entrance ways to the buildings or surrounding pavements".

The University has two campuses: Sant Cugat and Barcelona.

On the Sant Cugat campus smoking is not permitted throughout the facilities or the perimeter because it is located within the Hospital General de Catalunya.

According to the tobacco regulations of the Government of Catalonia you cannot smoke in:

  • Health centres. Smoking is prohibited in all health centres, including outdoor or covered spaces within their premises. Practical guide to smoke-free areas.
  • Educational centres. Smoking is absolutely prohibited on school grounds, including outdoor areas. Only in the case of university and adult training centres may smoking be allowed in outdoor spaces.

The smoke-free areas on the Barcelona campus are clearly indicated, as are the designated smoking areas.

In the 2021-2022 academic year, an anti-smoking campaign was carried out on the Sant Cugat campus to reinforce our policy of a smoke-free space.
