The Study and Control of Oral Infections (SCOI) Group focuses its research on oral infections (periodontitis, peri-implantitis, white spot lesions, caries, etc.), which are the most prevalent infectious diseases in the world, with a remarkably high incidence and potentially serious, with consequences on a patient’s general and oral health throughout their life. Therefore, the detection and study of risk factors for oral infections, their association with systemic diseases and the use of technologies with advanced materials is providing new ways of controlling them.
This research group includes dentists (periodontists, orthodontists, paediatric dentists and dental surgeons), material engineers and doctoral students, with the overall objective of pursuing synergies for designing and developing advanced, innovative and effective biomaterials, technologies and clinical studies, strategies, and techniques to improve prevention and treatment of oral infections.
