50 Physiotherapy Students Assist at Barcelona Marathon

Fifty students of Physiotherapy at the UIC volunteered their services in the athlete recovery area of the 36th Barcelona Marathon held on Sunday, 16 March 2014.

For the sixth consecutive year, a group of UIC student volunteers put the knowledge gained in classes into practice by administering recovery massage, mainly in the lower extremities, and assisting athletes in passive stretching of their fatigued muscles. The students were supervised by Luciana Moizé and Laia Monné, lecturers from the Physiotherapy Department.

In addition, one of the fourth-year students was given the opportunity to treat this year’s winner in the women's category.

In the 2014 edition of the Barcelona Marathon, 17,926 people registered from 87 countries. In fact, 40% of the participants were from outside Spain. Based on the number of participants, the race was once again ranked the fourth most popular marathon in Europe.
