Vaccination is a fundamental pillar in preserving the health of the entire community and plays a key role in the fight against infectious diseases. In this context, the University Institute for Patient Care organised the conference in collaboration with GSK, under the title “Vaccination challenges in Horizon 2030: a commitment to collective health”, under the framework of Vaccine Classroom activities.
With the main objective of addressing vaccination at every stage of life, the conference was structured around two round tables coordinated by Dr Fernando Moraga-Llop, Senior Member and Spokesperson of the Spanish Association of Vaccinology, and epidemiologist Dr Antoni Trilla, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Barcelona.
The session highlighted the social value of vaccination in particular, as a powerful tool for collective protection. At the same time, the session stressed the importance of equal access to vaccination to ensure that all citizens have the opportunity to protect their health and contribute to general well-being, without limitations caused by socioeconomic factors.
The experts who took part in the two round tables noted the importance of the vaccine calendar in disease prevention strategy, as it has become a fundamental tool that has made possible notable advances in vaccination coverage in recent decades. Even so, in order for society to become more aware of this fact, multi-channel awareness campaigns that reach all groups and age groups need to be promoted, offering clear and transparent results that increase confidence in the vaccination process.
Within the professional field, health sector workers have a key part to play as role models. Health professionals need to actively commit to their own vaccination, achieving high levels of coverage and collective resistance to infectious diseases.
In summary, the Vaccine Classroom conference raised awareness of vaccination as a responsible act of solidarity, while reminding the experts in attendance of the importance of promoting equal access, increasing the participation of health professionals, and publicising transparent awareness campaigns as essential steps towards a healthier and more resilient future.
