Cultural outing through the Gothic Quarter for Humanities students
On 26 October fourth-year Humanities and Cultural Studies students visited some of the most emblematic places in the Gothic Quarter. Art History and Literature lecturers for the Faculty of Humanities Marta Crispí and Jordi Bermejo guided the outing
Humanities and Cultural Studies students enjoyed the opportunity to follow this artistic-literary route through the Cathedral of Barcelona, Casa de l’Ardiaca (home of the Historic Archives of the City of Barcelona, AHCB), Palau Mayor, the Gothic structure of the Barcelona City Council building, the Generalitat and a brief tour of the National Library of Catalonia to end the outing.
This activity, driven by teaching innovation, seeks to promote an interdisciplinary vision linked to the spirit of the time both in architecture and works of art as well as in texts.
Students received detailed explanations from Lecturer Crispí about Catalan Romanesque and Gothic Art, found everywhere in this area of the city. Lecturer Bermejo gave further explanations with illustrations, explanatory notes and by reading short passages from main literary works in the Catalan used in the Middle Ages (Old Catalan).
This outing is one of the many activities organised by the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Humanities for its students and is part of the cultural activities series for the academic year.
