Department of Nursing Trains Clinical Tutors

The UIC Department of Nursing gave a course to clinical tutors from its bachelor's degree programme. It was the third edition of this type of course and was attended by fifteen professionals from the different centres that collaborate with the degree programme. The participating centres included Hospital Clínic, Parc Taulí, the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS), the Mútua de Terrassa, the Hospital de Terrassa, the Hospital de Granollers, Hospital Platón, the Sardenya Primary Care Team (EAP) and the Hospital de Viladecans.

The course, which was coordinated by Prof. Pilar Fuster and Prof. Marian Cerezuela, took place from Tuesday to Monday, 20-26 May 2014, for a total of twenty hours. Its objectives were for participants to analyse the perception of nurses as teachers, acquire useful teaching skills for tutoring sessions, learn how to use practicum assessment tools, and develop communication and interpersonal skills.

In this edition, participants discussed issues such as the nature of care, the characteristics of the UIC practicum, the teaching responsibilities of a clinical tutor, teaching and learning strategies, tutor-student interaction, reflective practice and practicum assessment.
