Dr Josep Argemí i Renom, new member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia

The first dean of the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr Josep Argemí i Renom, becomes a member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia, in an extraordinary session to receive him

The investiture ceremony of the newly elected scholar took place on 11 June, at the headquarters of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia. During the ceremony, Dr Argermí read the speech “Information or communication technologies and paediatrics: 50 years of experience and current vision of the effects of Internet and social networks on the children and adolescent health.” On behalf of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia, full member, Dr Lluís Morales Fochs responded.

Admission to the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia is a new recognition of the important professional and teaching task carried out by Dr Josep Argemí i Renom throughout his long career. Born in Sabadell, Argemí holds a PhD in Medicine from the University of Navarra and is full professor of Paediatrics. Among other positions, he served as dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences from the time the University was founded in 1997 until 2001. In 2001 and for nine years he held the position of rector at UIC Barcelona. Later, he directed the University’s Institute for Advanced Bioethical Studies.

The Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia has more than 250 years of history and its main objective is to contribute to knowledge and progress of health sciences in Catalonia and to defend Catalan scientific and cultural heritage in all its areas.
