Dr Mercè Boada receives the Honorary Muncunill Award for Innovation
Boada, co-founder and medical director of Ace Alheimer Center Barcelona and lecturer for the Department of Medicine at UIC Barcelona, has received the Honorary Muncunill Award for Innovation in an event organised by the Terrassa City Council and with support from Barcelona Provincial Council
The seventh edition of the awards took place on 4 May at the Teatro Principal in Terrassa with the aim of bringing innovation to population. The Honorary Muncunill Award for Innovation went to Dr Mercè Boada in recognition of her research work, of great relevance throughout her professional career.
Dr Mercè Boada is a neurologist and co-founder of Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona, a private non-profit entity that cooperates with UIC Barcelona and focuses on diagnosis, treatment, research and support of people with Alzheimer's disease. In addition, Boada is a lecturer for the UIC Barcelona Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, member of the EADC executive committee (European Alzheimer’s Disease Consortium) and principal investigator for the Ace Group at CIBERNED (Network Centre for Biomedical Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases), where she focuses her professional activity on dementia and has specialised in researching the biomarkers and protein of the disease, as well as genetic and environmental factors involved in their appearance.
Throughout her career, Dr Boada has published more than 200 articles and participated in more than 150 clinical trials. Her career as a researcher has also been recognised in the recent edition of the Stanford University ranking “World’s Top 2% Scientists”, and in the 10th edition of “The Top 100 Women Leaders of Spain”, in which Dr Boada is included among the most influential scientists for her career in Alzheimer’s disease research.
