Emilio J. Zegrí Boada Gives Lecture at UIC on «Public Speaking in Court»

On Thursday, 27 March 2014, Emilio J. Zegrí Boada, a managing partner at Zegrí + de Olivar Criminal Lawyers, gave a lecture on «Public Speaking in Court» as part of the Faculty of Law's continuing-education programme.

The speaker shared some techniques for delivering good speeches in court with students from the Faculty of Law.

In his lecture, he highlighted the power of words and the importance of facts. He said, “Words alone are not enough to teach, persuade and captivate; they must be accompanied by actions”. Referring to the process of preparing a speech, Zegrí went on to say, “It is as important to work hard on studying the speech as it is to deliver it effortlessly. You have to find the words that sum up the whole defence”.

Concluding the lecture, Zegrí advised the students, “When you speak in public, always keep your body language open and make eye contact with different people in your audience. Pause occasionally to recharge your batteries, create images and memorize the beginning and end of your speech”.
