Endodontics teachers create DentalHelp, a web application to guide dentists in clinical practice
Faculty of Dentistry teachers Fernando Durán-Sindreu, José A. González, Sergio Irazusta and Marc Garcia have created a computer support system to assist professionals in clinical decision-making for teeth with root canals and apical lesion
Currently, there are very few tools that help in decision-making in dentistry. For this reason, teachers and endodontic experts Fernando Durán-Sindreu, José A. González, Sergio Irazusta and Marc Garcia, with the collaboration of Alejandro González, CEO and founder of Ydray.com, have resorted to new technologies to create the web application DentalHelp. The aim of this initiative is to create a collaboration tool that allows professionals to simplify decision-making, especially in those cases where there are multiple treatment options. Moreover, DentalHelp also allows teachers and students to learn how an expert in a specific area thinks when making decisions based on the case study of each patient.
Professionals enter the most relevant information of their case in a short questionnaire, and the innovative tool proposes the most appropriate treatment for each situation, contributing to offer personalised solutions for each patient. Currently the project, sponsored by Dentsply Sirona and Adeslas, focuses on the area of Endodontics; however, the promoters are already working on a second phase, with the collaboration of other Faculty experts, to expand DentalHelp to the area of Restorative Dentistry.
As its creators explain, “we believe that DentalHelp is a very useful tool in our sector, open to both professionals and students, since it can be accessed from any device with an internet connection, as is not an app, thus facilitating the search for clinical solutions.”
Since its presentation, DentalHelp has received the Advanced Dentistry Award for the best solution, material or treatment in the latest edition of the Barcelona Dental Show, and already has more than 1,160 users from Spain and Latin America.
