In her speech, Eva Colas, scientific director of MiMark and principal researcher at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), said a few words to the new colleagues, reminding them that “you are the future of society and as biomedics you have a great responsibility ahead: undertake good science and try to transfer it to the health system to improve people’s quality of life.”  In addition, Colas encouraged recent graduates to feel the responsibility to contribute to what they do to make the world a better place, “trusting in your instinct and enthusiasm to do things you love.” “In both your personal and professional life, to be happy it is essential that you be authentic and faithful to your values,” she added.

The ceremony continued with the placing of the sashes and the awarding of diplomas to graduates, as well as the presentation of the Extraordinary Final Degree Award of the class of 2024 to Mateo Alejandro Estrella. The class representatives then dedicated some emotional words to both the teachers and their classmates, recalling their experiences during the four years at the University.

The graduation ended with a few words from the director of the Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences, Rosalía Rodríguez, who stressed that her new colleagues “you are a class with a lot of talent, determination and a critical spirit, able to face the health challenges that arise in our society.” “Do not forget that behind each research project there are patients who are our goal and our responsibility, and I hope that from tomorrow, biomedicine is not just a profession, but a way of life that you passionately enjoy.”
