Experience Campus opens a new centre in Calonge
The City Council of Calonge and Sant Antoni sponsors a new territorial centre for the UIC Barcelona Experience Campus, an academic programme of the University aimed at people over age 50. The project was presented on 15 September, at the Calonge Castle, with 160 people attending. Classes will begin at this centre in October, and 66 people have already registered
Experience Campus is a UIC Barcelona programme whose objective is academic training and the improvement in the quality of life for people over age 50. This programme was started in Barcelona in 2019, and later was extended with one territorial centre in the Penedès Region and another in Andorra. Now, the new one in the municipality of Calonge and Sant Antoni is added. Classes will be taught in the Calonge Castle.
Calonge and Sant Antoni define itself as “a town of books,” and has decided to commit to this curriculum, in cooperation with the University, to offer the senior population in the regions of Girona an academic programme that encourages interest in new areas of knowledge. The municipality has opened the Experience Campus with the primary goal to ensure that older people develop in the personal sphere and adapt to their environment in this stage of life.
The training initially consists of a three-year academic plan in which subjects from different thematic areas are grouped. The contents offered at Calonge and Sant Antoni include history, art, philosophy, science, technology, law, economics, sociology, psychology and health sciences, which will allow students to go deeper into current culture, science and society. Cultural outings, optional workshops, trips and even a summer university for adults are planned.
The methodology during the course is based on dynamic participation, with different projects carried out in teams to encourage group research, activity and the improvement in quality of life. After completing the three-year programme, students will receive the Diploma in the University Seniors Programme in Culture, Science and Society from the UIC Barcelona Experience Campus (Calonge Centre).
