Faculty of Communication Sciences Holds Awards Ceremony for 6th Edition of Comunika

On Saturday, 5 April 2014, the Faculty of Communication Sciences held a prize-giving ceremony for the sixth edition of Comunika, a workshop and competition aimed at future university students who have an interest in the world of communication. Comunika took place over two Saturdays in March and gave participants an opportunity to become media professionals for a day.

During the workshop, the students had to think about, develop and make a TV advertisement for the University, based on a briefing they were given and using the specific slogan of “Enjoy your UIC”. The participants were asked to give free rein to their imaginations and create an audiovisual piece that would transmit the essence of this message.

The panel of judges for this edition of the event was made up of Leo Olabarría, Guillermo Sánchez and Marina Pereda, all of whom combine teaching at the UIC with professional careers in the field of audiovisual communication. The judges based their assessment on the students’ creativity in expressing the slogan, the alignment of the audiovisual product with the briefing, and the resources used to create the advertisement.

The prizes were awarded in the UIC’s Graduate Hall, with all the members of the panel present. First prize was a 50% discount on the enrolment fee for the first year of any of the undergraduate programmes offered by the UIC’s Faculty of Communication Sciences, plus an iPod Shuffle. Second prize was an iPod Shuffle and third prize was a pair of Munich sports shoes, in recognition of the company’s collaboration with the competition.

This was the sixth edition of Comunika, a workshop and competition promoted by the UIC’s Faculty of Communication Sciences and designed to encourage future broadcasters to experience the life of a genuine media professional. The event is run by the Faculty teaching staff and gives participants an understanding of the essence of the profession while introducing them to key facilities such as the television and radio studios, video-editing rooms, multimedia rooms, etc. Students with an interest in the world of communication are able to get a firsthand feel for the media speciality they are most drawn to.
