Fifty people participate in the eighth edition of the Spring Research Conference
UIC Barcelona hosted the 8th edition of the Spring Research Conference, an annual research seminar organised by the Institute for Multilingualism of the Department of Applied Linguistics. The main objective of the conference was to bring together research specialists on bilingualism and multilingualism from different methodological perspectives.
This year’s edition titled “Teaching, learning and communicating in multilingual contexts,” in addition to participation from people from all Catalan universities, it also had teachers from foreign universities, such as Lithuania, Warsaw and Vienna. The director of the Institute for Multilingualism, Helen Roquet explained, “This is the day we introduce our multilingual acquisition research group as a pacesetter in Catalonia.”
This year, the common theme of the conference was teaching, learning and communicating in multilingual contexts, and the two main presentations were those given by David Lasagabaster and Ana Llinares, from the University of the Basque Country and the Autonomous University of Madrid, respectively.
Experts from Catalan, Spanish and international universities also participated through oral presentations and posters. And from abroad, teachers from the University of Vienna, the University of Warsaw, the University of Oxford and the Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania) participated.
Every Spring since the 2014-2015 academic year, the Institute for Multilingualism has organised a research seminar that takes place onsite at UIC Barcelona. What began as a small-scale seminar has grown into an international meeting, and this year has become the Spring Research Conference.
