The generation that will change the way we see the elderly
More than 250 students from the Experience Campus participated in the graduation ceremony, where third-year students of the University Seniors Programme in Culture Science and Society received their sashes and, the others, a diploma accrediting the completion of one more course. Pilar Escuder Mollón, gerontologist and coordinator of the Seniors University at the Jaume I University, was patron for the graduation of the second UIC Barcelona Experience Campus graduating class.
The big news this year was that students from the Penedès and Andorra Centres attended for the first time. The Aula Magna on the Barcelona Campus welcomed more than 450 people to an event that turned into quite a party.
Pilar Escuder Mollón, gerontologist and coordinator of the Seniors University at the Jaume I University, was patron for the ceremony and reflected on the significance of a senior who wants to learn and motivate the upcoming generations. “Aging is a wonderful time of life,” she said, “we must pass it on to all generations, and that is why you coming to a campus where there are young people is such a beautiful thing, because you are giving them a lesson on life.”
In this sense, Pilar Escuder stressed the importance of the work carried out in projects like Experience Campus. “I really hope that society learns from our universities,” she stated. Thus, she introduced a very clear idea: “You are the first generation that will change the way we see the elderly,” which Jordi Miralbell, director of Experience Campus, also pointed out, “We have to be the worthy reference point for other generations.”
Alfonso Méndiz, rector of UIC Barcelona, closed the ceremony, and the performance by the Campus Choir followed.
