Humanities Faculty Celebrates Feast of St. Isidore

On Friday, 25 April 2014, within the university's Culture Week, the Faculty of Humanities celebrated the feast of its patron saint, St. Isidore.

During the celebration Dr. Xavier Baró, Vice Rector for the Faculty of Humanities, gave the lecture “St. Isidore of Seville: Patron Saint of the Humanities”.

In the course of his talk, Dr. Baró went into further detail on the fundamental features of St. Isidore of Seville’s contribution both as a humanist (through his work, Etymologies) and a believer (through his three books of Sentences). Dr. Baró also explained why St. Isidore is the patron saint of Humanities studies.

The awards ceremony for the public speaking seminar and competition also took place as part of the celebration. Competition participants attended theory and practical sessions on public speaking for two weeks to prepare for the final competition, which was held on Thursday, 24 April 2014.

The winners of the competition were Laura Roigé, for “The Architecture of Happiness”, and María Pía and Sara Peralta for “We Are Citizens of the World”.
